Insight and creativity

Preparation
This is the first stage of insight and creativity. its initial awareness of the problem and the exploration of the problem.

Incubation
This is the unconscious solving of the problem. the picture is used to symbolize incubation stage of insight and creativity.

Illumination
This is the third stage of insight and creativity. here a formulation is made on how to solve a problem.

Verification
An action aimed at testing the solution is done as the last stage of insight and creativity. to check whether the hypothesis used will work or not.

Creative People

Creative people are quite dynamic. they are playful and very intellectual. they are also full of curiosity and make sure the keep it burning.

Creative people are very much hardworking. they can absorb themselves in finding a solution to a problem.

Daring is one of the characteristics for creative people. they possess a low level of risk adventure. they are willing to try new ideas that they have, like we say the man on the picture jumping over the hole without fear.

Creative people are independent. instead of looking at others for ideas they think for themselves. they are less afraid and more confident.

Create people are resourceful. They can think of approaches that can solve a problem, like the child above decided to climb on the chair so as to reach the toy.

I was playing a game with my friend Lala. She just told me to take a pen and write everything that comes to my mind in 45 seconds. I used free writing to jot down everything i was thing about in those 45 seconds. This was a good warm up exercise before we actually started to play the game

The Apple

A picture of an apple was given, and the first person was say what comes their mind when they see the apple, the second person was to relate what the first person said to something that comes to their mind, and so on. this took place between a tutorial class of 10 and the words below were given;

Apple
fruit
orange
banana
tree
seeds
soil
nutrients
minerals
vitamins
health

From reading this i noticed that free association was being used by this class. where words are being associated from the previous word said. This a way of writing to stimulate creative thinking

Comparison!!

In the above picture, metaphoric comparison is being used. This is whereby comparison is made without use of comparative qualifiers.

As, Like, Than!!!

In the above picture we see the use of similes, as tough as, as wise as. Similes is where by a comparison is made from a subject or object to something to create an image a an idea.

Poor Jack!!

My friends colleague heard that Jack was to be fired at his work place. My friend decided to go to the manager and confront him about this. When she got to the manager she said, "You are really not being fair when you say jack should be fired just because he is physically challenged. Are you forgetting that Jack is the one who always keeps the firm from losing at of money when all the big deals don't pull through? He is one of the best employees so please stop being so unfair.

BCT;
My friend being the arguer here is trying to sidetrack the manager using red herring fallacy by raising irrelevant issue and claiming the original issue has been settled by the raise of the irrelevant diversion.

Angelina Jolie

I was sitting by the school library when i overheard the following conversation between a girl and boy.

Girl: "Angelina is trafficking drugs into the US together with husband Brad Pitt."

Boy: "No they are not, that is so untrue."

Girl: "Well can you prove that they are not?"

Boy: "No i can't.

BCT;
From what i learned from critical thinking I immediately realized that the girl was using the burden of proof fallacy. She found it hard to support her claim so then she shifted the responsibility to the boy.

Beauty

In the princess diary it reads, "Princess Diana is very pretty because she has a shiny and glowing skin. She has a glowing and shiny skin because she takes care of it quite well. She takes care of her skin because she is so pretty.

BCT;
it came to my mind that the author here was using circular argument to explain the princess's beauty. The author created an endless circle because the conclusion appears at the beginning and the end of the argument.

Power and Influence

I read an article last year about the mayor of Chicago. An anonymous person had said that the mayor is the most powerful man he's ever known. And when he was asked why he mentioned that the mayor was a very influential man

BCT;
When i came read this article i realized that the man had used petitio principii fallacy to explain why he said the mayor was powerful. Influential and power means the same thing.

A Better School

I was in the KL monorail when a woman told a friend that he should send his child to Multimedia University. When she was asked why she said that she talked to the dean of the school and he had mentioned that the university is the next big thing in the future.

Relation to BCT;
The woman was using ad populum appeal to authority. She was making a linkage with someone who's wiser so that her friend will agree with her argument

Robbery

A man was being accused of theft and the plaintiff wanted him to go to jail. The robbers attorney pleaded the jury not to take the man to jail because he is just a poor old man trying to make a living. She also said that the man is taking care of her little sister and that there would be no one to take care of her when he's in jail. The attorney also stressed that the man has no parents and has to do odd jobs to take care of himself and his younger sister.

Relation to BCT;
Here we see that the attorney is using ad populum appeal to pity. She is trying to evoke pity and sympathy with their situation.

A Story about me

I was having breakfast with my family last Sunday. we were just talking about the news with my brother when my mother suddenly started shouting, "Listen!, Either you study hard at school or or your chances of getting a good job will be very negligible.

Relation to BCT;
In this case, we see that my mother was using ad populum appeal to force (scare tactics). She is persuading me by using by using some threat of violence for me to accept the conclusion.

Three Levels of feelings

INTERPRETATIONS

An artist uses pictures or images to interpret how they feel. clouds could mean sorrow and the flowers may show content while the sunny day could interpret happiness.

EMOTIONS

On the image above, we see different emotions which are state that arises spontaneously rather than through conscious effort. These are feelings of joy, sorrow surprise and others.

SENSATIONS

We can use our senses to show how we feel. The five senses we have are hearing, sight, taste, touch, smell.The above picture is a good illustration of this.like when something is sour, beautiful or hurtful.

The Story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears

Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Goldilocks. She went for a walk in the forest. Pretty soon, she came upon a house. She knocked and, when no one answered, she walked right in.

At the table in the kitchen, there were three bowls of porridge. Goldilocks was hungry. She tasted the porridge from the first bowl.
"This porridge is too hot!" she exclaimed.
So, she tasted the porridge from the second bowl.
"This porridge is too cold," she said
So, she tasted the last bowl of porridge.
"Ahhh, this porridge is just right," she said happily and she ate it all up.

After she'd eaten the three bears' breakfasts she decided she was feeling a little tired. So, she walked into the living room where she saw three chairs. Goldilocks sat in the first chair to rest her feet.
"This chair is too big!" she exclaimed.
So she sat in the second chair.
"This chair is too big, too!" she whined.
So she tried the last and smallest chair.
"Ahhh, this chair is just right," she sighed. But just as she settled down into the chair to rest, it broke into pieces!

Goldilocks was very tired by this time, so she went upstairs to the bedroom. She lay down in the first bed, but it was too hard. Then she lay in the second bed, but it was too soft. Then she lay down in the third bed and it was just right. Goldilocks fell asleep.
As she was sleeping, the three bears came home.
"Someone's been eating my porridge," growled the Papa bear.
"Someone's been eating my porridge," said the Mama bear.
"Someone's been eating my porridge and they ate it all up!" cried the Baby bear.
"Someone's been sitting in my chair," growled the Papa bear.
"Someone's been sitting in my chair," said the Mama bear.
"Someone's been sitting in my chair and they've broken it all to pieces," cried the Baby bear.

They decided to look around some more and when they got upstairs to the bedroom, Papa bear growled, "Someone's been sleeping in my bed,"
"Someone's been sleeping in my bed, too" said the Mama bear
"Someone's been sleeping in my bed and she's still there!" exclaimed Baby bear.

Just then, Goldilocks woke up and saw the three bears. She screamed, "Help!" And she jumped up and ran out of the room. Goldilocks ran down the stairs, opened the door, and ran away into the forest. And she never returned to the home of the three bears.

BCT; Re-writing the story Science fiction

Goldilocks was a girl from Brooklyn. She had golden hair, hence the name Goldilocks. Goldilocks was a leader of a firm which is involved in the trafficking of souls to hells to be used as forced labor. Everyone in Brooklyn liked her because they thought she was a saint. Little did they know that that she really was a demon sent to earth to ruin lives. Goldilocks was cursed by her grandmother, thats why she become a demon. She didn't like being a demon.

One sunny day one of the ghost who where captured from earth for forced labor escaped from hell. Goldilocks was then sent to go find the ghost. this missing ghost was a rather a spirit who was supposed to go to heaven but had been brought illegally to hell.

On her mission to find the ghost Goldilocks met Shing. Shing was once a demon but got rescued by Goldilocks. The firm did not know about this. Goldilocks told Shing about her mission. Since Shing did not approve of demons she convinced Goldilocks to run away forever.

When the demons from the firm realized. Goldilocks had gone for good they set out to go find her. All hell broke loose. They went from city to city to find her. on their mission sucking peoples blood, killing them, turning them into zombies and Dracula. Goldilocks heard about this. She pleaded the ghosts from heaven to help her fight the demons.

War began the ghost from heaven and hell. if the ghost from heaven won Goldilocks curse would go away but if not she would be a demon forever. the war went on for five days. And luckily the ghost from heaven overpowered those from hell. Hell was diminished. everyone was free and Goldilocks was no longer a demon. Her and Shing went took a vacation Africa after all was over.

Why study Critical Thinking?

From these pictures we can understand that critical thinking is about development of human and logic. Learning logic helps us in reasoning. We also learn about the development of logic and problem solving

Knowledge Accesibility

EXPLICIT KNOWLEDGE

We can use our explicit knowledge to tell where Singapore is located on google maps. This type of knowledge is usually found in documents or computers.

IMPLICIT KNOWLEDGE

One could ask if you can walk from Bukit Bintang to the KL monorail. Yes we can! Here we use implicit knowledge to do this which is stored within our minds and is accessible through discussion.

TACIT KNOWLEDGE

One can be asked which of these scrap cars belong to them. One can answer by using their tacit knowledge which is stored within the mind and is accessed indirectly and usually with difficulty
